Good evening,  DizzyMizz Lizzy. Let’s start from the beginning. If I’m right, you met at school ?

SOREN & TIM: Yes

Can you tell me how the group was created, where the name comes from?

SOREN:  Oh, that question… I went to the same class as Tim. In 87 or 88, we started rehearsing and made up songs. We had a mutual friend, he came to me one day and asked if I’d like to play drums. I didn’t have any band at that time

TIM: The first time we actually got together was in 88.

SOREN: yes, we had a rehersal and… started to play together…

What about the name ?

SOREN & TIM: The name came from a competition we had in school. You name a letter, and then you name all the bands you know with that letter. We got Y and couldn’t come up with any bands so one of us said “Dizzy Mizz Lizzy”. We changed the S into Z.

How did you share the creating process? Who’s writing the music, who’s writing the lyrics?

SOREN: Tim. He writes the lyrics. We think of the visual,

TIM: The new album is the first that came from the band…

SOREN & TIM: Yeah… Tim had some stuff with him, but a lot of it is damned.

Your new album sounds more metal than your previous one. Why is there such a change and what does it correspond to for the band?

TIM: I don’t think we were into having sound more metal… It’s just our natural development in a way…

SOREN: Yes, I think so, and also, Tim is listening to more hard music today. He was a lot into Beatles and stuff like that and now he listens to The Cure, Megadeth…

SOREN & TIM: we were also inspired by the grunge, and all. This time around, it’s more rebel, stoner rock…

A month ago you were playing in Japan at a festival. What does it feel like to play with bands such as Scorpions, Blind Guardian, Enslaved…?

TIM: It’s a pretty hard rock festival. We played there two years in a row, actually…

SOREN: The first time we played there, it was with Slayer and Megadeth, I think. This time it was more traditional, with Whitesnake… But many of those bands, the singer can’t sing anymore! Too old (laugh).

TIM: but it was great to be there: 10.000 people who came to see us, we had a good production…

SOREN: It was quite a good show. We love to be in Japan, it’s like our second home.

Let’s go back to your last album: the name Forward in reverse, as well as the cover are definitely enigmatic. Could you tell us more about this, and maybe also about the genesis of the album?

SOREN & TIM: The genesis? You mean the title of the album, or the songs?

The title of the album, Forward in reverse ?

SOREN & TIM: The song, Forward in reverse, was actually called something else. I think it was a line in the song that made us decide to call it Forward in reverse. It quite sums up our career. It seemed natural to call the album like that.

What about this little girl who appears on all your albums. What’sher story?

TIM: She’sdead! (generallaughter)

SOREN: The story is, I think, it’s Tim’s grandmother’s sister. It’s a long way back. One day, Tim found this picture and he thought it would be funny to have a black and white picture and to use that on the first album. Now, it’s kind of our brand, our trademark.you know?

She’s your Eddie… ?

SOREN & TIM: Yeah! Exactly! Now she’s coming on stage and all ! “Oh no! It’s a girl!” (general laughter !)

What was the recording process like, the atmosphere, your state of mind?

TIM:  It was on and off, actually. We did it here, we were on tour.

SOREN: It was over one and a half year…

TIM: It was a long process in the studio, doing two or three songs at a time. It was a busy year…

SOREN:  It was quite nice to do. As I said, we had our rehersal room in the studio, so we would go there and jam… No stress.

Have you got an international tour planed?

SOREN & TIM: Things come along. We are going to concentrate next year on playing outside Denmark, tour Holland, maybe France in spring or in the summer, we don’t know yet. Also Japan, at a festival. Maybe Sweeden, we don’t know yet…

Any chance we can see you at Hellfest ?

SOREN & TIM: We are quite new here. We had just finished touring at home and we just thought there was nothing left for us to do. So we will wait until next year. Suddenly Sony called us and said “hey, you have to come here, we are releasing your album in France”. So we said “ok, that’s cool”. We wanted to come here and talk to you, and, I hope, we will convince some people to make up a tour.

Have you got any projects for a new album?

SOREN & TIM: Mmmh… Yes, actually we were talking about that: getting home next year and writing new songs. Hopefully we’ll do that, just take it easy and see what comes up. New songs and, hopefully, a new album.

Let’s talk about Tim’s solo career: has it influenced you, the band, your music?

SOREN & TIM: He has a band… Tim’s solo career, he likes to have a career on his own, and if you have room for that, it’s fine. We listen to what Tim writes, also. Sometimes he has songs for him, sometimes for Dizzy. It’s two different things. We try to do things on our side, and Time does… what he wants (laugh)

have you got an anecdote or a favorite story about the band that you would like to share?

SOREN & TIM:… No. Nothing I want to share ! (general laughter) uuhhhh… I  don’t know…

I think I saw a picture of you and Lemmy, what about that?

SOREN & TIM: Yes… I guess it was at Wacken festival, or in Denmark. We just came to them and said “hey, can can?”. Just like any other fan.

one last word?

SOREN & TIM: We hope to come back to France soon, and play here. In march, I hope…

Well, thank you very much, guys!

SOREN & TIM: thank you!

Bonsoir, Dizzy Mizz lizzy.

SOREN & TIM: Les choses avancent.
