JØRGEN MUNKEBY WON HONORARY MUSIC AWARD

On Monday, Nov. 6th, Shining’s Jørgen Munkeby was awarded the Norwegian Rolf Gammleng Honorary Award for his work in music throughout the years. The award was given out by Fond For Utøvende Kunstnere (Fund For Performing Artists) in the class « Jazz/metal/improv« .

Jørgen comments, with his typical grin: « This is my first lifetime achievement-type prize, and I’m super happy to see that my artistic calling and never-ending quest for musical excellence has been noticed. But then again, I can’t imagine there was any notable competition in the class of jazz/metal/improv to speak of. »

During the award speech Munkeby informed the audience and invited artists that the 50k NOK (6200 USD) price money will go towards an eye surgery.

« Every time I go out on tour, I check my XL spreadsheet where I have all the items I need to pack for a tour, based upon how many days I’m away. Two of the lines are contact lenses for main suitcase and for carryon. I can’t wait to delete those two pesky lines from the spreadsheet! » Munkeby notes
